Mikray Pida, My Space

Stillness and meditation form the work of Mikray Pida. Incorporating figures and landscape as well as inner space, the subjects of her work include immigration and refugees as well as environmental issues. The vast changes we are experiencing in the physical aspects of nature are very much a part of Pida’s concern. Pida is an artist who comes of the history and issues of her time.

Pida's art is grounded most deeply in her knowledge of the Uighur people. There is mystery in her work and remembrance of an inherited civilization, some of it on cave walls from almost a thousand years ago. Her art is a powerful and profound fusion of the present as well as the deeply held inheritance of her own people.
