Every 国产小呦女student receives a unique username that provides access to AU's various on-line resources. If you are a new听student, you will need to follow these steps to create your username:

1. Go to .
2. Enter the following personal information听when prompted:
   • your seven-digit 国产小呦女ID听number, which can be found on any official document from the university听(required)
   • your Name听(required)
   • your Date of Birth in the听format of MM/DD/YYYY
   • Additionally, you may need:
     
     • last four digits of听your Home Telephone number, or
     • the last four digits of your听Social Security Number for domestic students
3. Then, enter your choice of an initial Password, which听you will be required to change every 365 days.
4. You will be asked to agree to AU's technology听policies.
5. The system will take a moment to create听your username. At this point, the portal will display your user name, and your听AU-sponsored Gmail account e-mail address.
6. Please record this information听for future reference.

Immediately after you've created your account, you should:

1. Visit to setup your account recovery options in the event you forget your password.
2. Next, you should go to the 国产小呦女Gmail website听at 听to log into your email account to make sure you can access it. The password will be the one you selected for your my国产小呦女account.

听

To submit your enrollment agreement and housing deposit, follow the steps below:

1. Log on to听.
2. Click on the Academics tab on the left side
3. Under听Personalized Links, select听Enrollment Agreement and Housing Deposit.
4. Complete and submit with the $400 tuition and $200 housing deposits (use a credit card or e-check) by听May 1.

If you wish, you can grant your parents, guardians, or others the ability to access your academic and administrative information through a special "account" on the听. You may create a separate user name for each individual and specify the level of access you authorize for him or her.

To protect your privacy, the听听requires us to obtain your permission, before sharing your educational records.

To grant access, follow the steps below:

1. Visit

3. Click on the听Student Name and Icon.
4. Click on听View/Add Proxy Access.
5. Select听Person听from the drop-down box and add a proxy. If the person you want is not listed, click on听Add Another User听and complete their information to add them to your proxy list.
6. Select the听Permission听for the proxy user. You can select to authorize your proxy to make a payment, view account summary, and/or view account activity.
7. Click听Save,听and then click the听Submit听button.
8. You can add multiple accounts for multiple different proxies.
   
   

When the person you authorized logs in to the听听with the user name and password you created, they can access Eagle Service with only the access that you enabled for them. You can modify the access level at any time through Eagle Service.

You can also contact the to have the password reset or to have the account deleted. These accounts are yours to manage, and the Help Desk will only reset the passwords for you or the account holder.

AU's tool allows users, with an expired or forgotten password or a locked account, to reset their own password without having to call the IT Help Desk. Users can authenticate using an alternate mechanism or factor, such as answering security questions or validating an SMS code, to access their account.

End-user benefits include:

• Speed and efficiency: Rather than waiting on hold for a help desk analyst to unlock or reset their account, users are empowered to use self-service, with immediate results and confirmation of success.
• An introduction to automated help: Self-Service Password Reset is one of the first steps for many universities in implementing automation into their services. Unlike traditional password resets, SSPR eliminates the need for a phone call to the service desk and reduces the usual hold time to a mere few clicks of a button for the end user 鈥� introducing them to an automated and instantaneous self-help function. Many other service offerings are available via the OIT Self-Service Portal at
• High availability and security: SSPR eliminates the need to talk to a service provider and is available 24/7 via desktop or mobile devices, which help users feel both in control and secure.听

• Tuition insurance acts as an extension of the University鈥檚 refund policy, reimbursing you for your tuition payment, housing and meal fees, and other nonrefundable expenses, if you withdraw for a covered reason at any time during the semester.
• Tuition insurance is optional, and you will pay the insurance provider directly for coverage.听 The tuition insurance may be purchased each semester, up through the end of the second week of classes

国产小呦女 will accept a maximum of 30 credit hours from one or a combination of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate, CLEP subject examinations, or other AU-approved test credit. All exam scores must be received by the 国产小呦女 Office of Admissions no later than the end of the second enrolled term. Exam scores more than six years old will not be accepted for credit. Advanced credit exams may be applied toward the major or minor, or as elective credit.

国产小呦女recognizes that students may use names other than a legal name to identify themselves. Students in on-campus and WCL programs who would like their chosen name displayed across many 国产小呦女systems are invited to submit a chosen name using the process outlined below.

1. The first step to submitting your chosen name is through听. Select 鈥淯ser Profile鈥� on the top-right corner. Then, click on the "Edit Personal Identity" button. Adding your chosen name, pronouns, and gender identity here (all optional) will initiate the different technology and campus systems to update your display name.听Please note,听it takes approximately 24-48 hours听for all campus systems to update.
2. If new students update their chosen name in Eagle Service prior to July 1^st, new student鈥檚 One Card (国产小呦女ID) will be printed with the chosen first name. If the chosen name is updated after July 1^st, new students can email听idcards@american.edu听and request a new card with their chosen name as long as the old card is returned.
3. Updating a chosen name in Eagle Service updates the display name for a student's email address but does not automatically update a student's username (i.e. cz1234a). The first letter of a student's email address听can be changed with a request submitted to the Office of Information Technology Help Desk at听helpdesk@american.edu.

Please note: The chosen name is not a private name. Your chosen name will display across many campus information systems, so, faculty, staff, and fellow students will be able to see and refer to you by your chosen name. However, not all 国产小呦女systems have current capacity to display chosen name. Once your high school degree has been posted, please submit your final high school transcript to the Office of Admissions by June 30

If you elected to self-report your standardized听test听scores as part of your admissions application, a condition of your admission to 国产小呦女is to provide an official听score听report after submitting your enrollment agreement.

Please submit an official听score听report to the 国产小呦女 Office of Admissions by June 30. If official听scores are not received by听June 30, a hold will be placed on your account, preventing you from registering for spring courses.

There are two ways to submit an official听score听report:

1. Request an official听score听report to be sent from either the SAT or the ACT, whichever you self-reported on your application.
2. Have your school counselor send the official听scores to Enrollment's.

During your first login to a Duo-protected system, you will be required to complete the Duo enrollment process. Most account holders will need to enroll a mobile device in Duo. Use the instructions below to enroll a mobile phone or tablet in Duo.

What is Duo Mobile?

Duo Mobile is an app for your smartphone or tablet simplifies the process for authenticating to your 国产小呦女account. Duo Mobile offers the most flexibility for authenticating to your 国产小呦女account by providing users a one-tap prompt to respond to, or renewable security codes. Duo Mobile does not rely on SMS or phone call capabilities, making it ideal for situations where you may not have cell coverage or wifi access, including traveling internationally.

Can't Download DUO Mobile? If your phone cannot download Duo Mobile, you can still authenticate using a phone call or text message. See the available , which includes details on the other types of devices that the enrollment process can accommodate.

Self-Enrollment

1. During the first enrollment, users will receive a brief introduction to the Duo platform. Click Next to proceed through the introduction.
   
   
   
2. After the introduction, select an enrollment option. We strongly recommend Duo Mobile, for enrolling a mobile device.
   
   
   
3. In the field provided, enter your phone number and click Add phone number. If you are setting up Duo Mobile on a tablet, click I have a tablet to proceed.
   
4. Confirm the phone number appears correct, then verify ownership of your phone by having DUO call or text you a verification code. Enter the code, then click Verify.
5. With your phone number added, follow the on-screen instructions to download the Duo Mobile app to either your iOS or Android device.
   
6. A QR code will display on-screen. Open the Duo Mobile app to scan the displayed QR code to complete the Duo Mobile setup.
7. You're now enrolled in DUO. Click Continue to enroll other devices or complete your first Duo authentication.
   

University College (UC) is the oldest and largest full-year Living-Learning community at 国产小呦女for first-year students! UC students live in first-year residence halls with their Complex Problems classmates. Students join a cohort 鈥� a group of UC Complex Problems seminars based around a theme 鈥� and holds community events throughout the academic year.

UC is open to all first-year students from all schools and majors who live on campus and who are not already participating in another Living-Learning Community. A great bonus is that there are no additional financial commitments to be a part of the UC program!

Students who are part of University College (UC) will be able to:

• Actively participate in their Complex Problems seminar
• Attend and participate in events and trips hosted by UC faculty and staff that help get you connected to the 国产小呦女and DC communities.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with UC faculty and staff.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with peers.

Skip the lines on you first visit to our fitness centers.听 In order to gain access to our recreational sports and fitness centers, you are required to register.听 Make your first visit more seamless by submitting your registration online.

Recreational Sports and Fitness, a unit within the Department of Athletics and Recreation, provides facilities and programs designed to meet a variety of needs and interests of the 国产小呦女 community. Memberships are available to University students, faculty, staff, affiliates, and the neighboring community.

An 国产小呦女RecFit membership includes the use of the听,听,听,听,听, and our听. Members also have the opportunity to participate in services including club sports, intramural sports, group exercise classes, personal training, and wellness programming.

All new members must complete a registration form in order to gain access to Recreational Sports and Fitness facilities and services. Registration forms are also available at the front desk of all fitness facilities.

On-campus housing is in high demand, so it is important that students submit their enrollment and听housing deposits to the Office of Admissions as soon as possible to secure a space. If you plan on taking a language while at 国产小呦女and have prior experience in that language, you will need to take the Language Placement exam to find out which course you place into. SIS students must take a language while at AU. If you have questions about whether a language is required, please contact your advisor. Once you have completed your Language Placement exam, please take a screenshot of your score and send it to your advisor. Some incoming students to 国产小呦女 must take the mathematics placement test, including special programs students (Washington Mentorship Program, UM in DC, International Gateway Program etc.) and non-degree students who want to take a math or stat class.听

• The test consists of 32 multiple choice questions.
• You are allowed up to 45 minutes to complete it.
• You are allowed to use any calculator, during the test.
• You must be the person who is taking the test.
• Once the test has started, you must finish it. You cannot stop and come back to it later.
• Do not sign in, unless you are ready to take and complete the test.

Health insurance is required for all full-time degree, resident, and international students with F1 and J1 visas.

Your automatic enrollment and charge will show on your billing statement; however, you can submit a Health Insurance Waiver, if you have your own insurance coverage.

Students who have not yet registered will have to wait up to week after they register to submit their waiver

Note: Opting out of health insurance is something that only the student can do for themselves.

If you want to opt out, you must submit a waiver request before September 9, 2024. (No waivers are possible after that date.) The earlier you request a waiver, the sooner the charge can be removed from your bill, so please try to do this before August if possible! The waiver request process will open on May 14 (you cannot submit a waiver until 24 hours after the health insurance charge has been posted to your bill)

8.听Select the 'Submit Waiver' button at the bottom of the waiver form.

You will receive a message from Academic HealthPlans that you've submitted the waiver. This does not mean that it was approved; that decision will be made within 5-7 business days.听听 You will receive an additional email from Academic HealthPlans once your waiver has been processed with the waiver decision.

To set the stage for your first year here at AU, we have chosen a book that we call our 鈥渃ommunity text鈥� for you to read before you arrive in August. Early in the fall semester, you and your peers from your College Writing class will have the chance to hear the author of this year鈥檚 book speak about their experiences with writing and publishing, as well as answer your questions! You鈥檒l discuss the book and the author鈥檚 insights from the live interview with your peers in class, and you鈥檒l write from inspiration or more questions that arise from these discussions. The Writing Studies Program and the Campus Store will also sponsor an essay contest to honor student writing inspired by the community text.

We believe the dialogue we develop around the challenging themes that define our community texts unifies our students and faculty in an intellectual experience. When we ask tough questions, consider what鈥檚 at stake for all involved, and listen to one another respectfully, we can develop our own positions and ideas about the world and participate in building an academic community. Welcoming our text鈥檚 author to discuss their work is an essential part of this shared intellectual experience.
