Bio
Dr. Brian McGowan is a Professor in the School of Education. Dr. McGowan鈥檚 interdisciplinary research program focuses on college student and faculty experiences, racial equity, and retention, particularly for Black and underrepresented groups in postsecondary education. He has co-edited two books including Men and masculinities: Theoretical foundations and promising practices for supporting college men鈥檚 development. (Stylus) and Black men in the academy: Narratives of resiliency, achievement, and success (Palgrave MacMillan). His scholarly contributions extend to over 40 publications, including refereed articles featured in esteemed journals such as the Journal of College Student Development, International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, Journal of Engineering Education, Journal of Science and Research Teaching, and Equity and Excellence in Education. Dr. McGowan has secured over $2.4 million in grants from notable organizations such as the National Science Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He is an accomplished presenter, having delivered over 75 presentations and invited talks at various colleges and universities, research and evaluation organizations, and professional conferences.
